Anthony Tong

Anthony TongAnthony graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Laws in 1988, joined the international renowned intellectual property legal practice Robin Bridge & John Liu and now is the managing partner of that firm.Anthony has a substantial litigation practice in different areas of intellectual property in both the Mainland China and the Hong Kong SAR.  His firm manages a number of local clients’ worldwide trade mark portfolios as well as overseeing a number of international clients’ trade mark portfolios in Greater China. Anthony has also assisted numerous overseas enterprises to set up businesses in the Mainland China and the Hong Kong SAR or to collaborate into joint venture agreements with PRC partners. Both the firm Robin Bridge & John Liu and Anthony Tong himself Mr Tong and the firm have received ranking in the Silver Band of the WTR 1000 (World Trademark Review) 2013.

Anthony has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government to be the Deputy Chairman of the Copyright Tribunal from 1 December 2011 whose term of office has just been renewed for another 2 years. The Copyright Tribunal adjudicates on disputes concerning the terms and conditions of copyright licensing schemes devised by licensing bodies. The Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the tribunal must be qualified for appointment as District Court Judges. Anthony has also been appointed by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government as a member of the Certifying Body of Hong Kong-Canada Film and Television Co-production which is established under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Canadian Government on Film and Television Co-production.

Anthony is also the Honorary Legal Adviser of the Design Council of Hong Kong, under the auspices of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, a non-profit-making statutory body created to represent and serve the interests of Hong Kong’s manufacturing industries and to foster their improvement and development, on issues relating to intellectual property. Anthony is a member of the INTA who also sits in INTA’s 2012-2013 Issues of Proof Subcommittee of the Enforcement Committees. He is also a member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association as well as a member of the committee of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Alliance, which establishment was initiated by the Customs and Excise Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Being appointed as a Notary Public and a PRC Appointed Attesting Officer, Anthony is able to attest all facts and documents arising out of Hong Kong for use in Courts and Government departments across China as well as documents to be used worldwide.
